WASHINGTON STREET ROAD EXPANSION PROJECT

Adams County, Colorado 

Flatirons, Inc. was contracted to conduct a topographic survey and prepare an ownership map for Phase II and Phase III of the Washington Street expansion project located in Adams County, Colorado.   The project consisted of the roadway expansion and redesign of 2.75 miles of roadway ranging from 2-lane rural roads to 6 lanes of traffic.  The project ranged from rural areas to dense commercial activities including platted lands to aliquot divisions.  Included within the scope of the project, was the survey and redesign of several intersections including State Highway 224, Interstate 76 overpass, and Clear Creek.  Phase II is currently under construction, and Phase III is in the final engineering design stages of development. 

Flatirons, Inc. prepared a full topographic survey utilizing both GPS and robotic total stations to maintain the required horizontal and vertical accuracies requested by Adams County.  It was the responsibility of Flatirons, Inc. to tie all survey information into Adams County horizontal and vertical networks, and set control to be utilized for the future construction of the entire roadway expansion.  The scope of the topographic survey was primarily a 200-foot corridor centered on Washington Street with cross sections done at a minimum of 50’ intervals.  

Flatirons, Inc was responsible for researching and preparing an ownership map showing the existing right-of-way and adjacent parcels for the scope of the project, including many side streets intersecting Washington Street.  Flatirons, Inc. was responsible for tying the ownership map into the surveyed section lines running along the centerline of Washington Street.  Upon completion of the new roadway design, Flatirons, Inc. was responsible for preparing all right-of way acquisition exhibits, and drainage easements do be dedicated to Adams County.
