Right-of-way Acquisition
In the preparation of a project involving a long corridor, such as a roadway or pipeline, it may be necessary to obtain and provide information regarding ownership of land that the project will cross. This may allow the project coordinators to contact the landowners to negotiate purchase of land for right-of-way or to negotiate for
an easement. The surveyor will be familiar with the process of obtaining ownership information from the public records, or this information can be provided by a title company. The surveyor can prepare a map showing current ownership and the relationship of a proposed corridor or other improvement to the existing ownership. As the project progresses, the surveyor may be involved in the preparation of legal descriptions of land to be acquired.
