Monitor Well Location

Groundwater monitoring systems have become a commonplace means of detecting, analyzing and monitoring groundwater pollution. By means of a network of monitoring wells drilled into subsurface aquifers, the locations of point source contaminations can be identified and tracked. In order for the overall ground water monitoring model to be accurate, the wells must be placed on one horizontal and vertical datum. The role of the surveyor is to establish and map this system, usually under the direction of anSteep hill with equipment environmental engineer. The information provided is usually a XYZ coordinate list with elevations of the top of the monitoring well and adjacent ground.

Although some sites (gas stations, underground storage tanks) are relatively limited in size and can be surveyed with traditional methods, often, sites are so large that Global Positioning System methods would be used to tie the wells together horizontally.

Flatirons, Inc. can provide personnel trained in the special requirements of surveying in hazardous waste, toxic waste and other environmentally sensitive sites. These include EPA Superfund sites, military installations, landfills etc. These surveys are performed by crews that have OSHA 40 hour certifications.
